How does it work?

We simplify the process of finding the best tyre prices by comparing offers from the UK's biggest retailers and local tyre fitters, so you can compare tyre prices and easily find the best deals, always saving you money on your purchases.

The prices we show are for fully fitted tyres that are in stock and available at fitters local to you. Remember we don't sell tyres and are completely independent, so you can trust our search results.

If you're not sure exactly what tyre brand or tread pattern you want, we'll help you choose. We will only recommend tyres that your manufacturer fitted on your vehicle as it came out of the factory. We do this to ensure your safety and provide you with optimal performance on the road.

All you need to do is simply pick the tyre you'd like and click the button to go through to your local tyre fitter. If they offer an online service you will need to book it in with them and pay at the point of order or after fitting, whichever it is that they offer.

cartyres.com is incredibly quick and easy to use - it saves you time and money and best of all, it is completely free.

How do I check my tyre tread?

Tyre tread depth gauges are available from many retailers. Or you can simply use a 20p coin.

Insert a 20p coin into the lowest depth tread (where the tyre looks most worn) and if you can see the outer band of the coin, you should look at replacing the tyre.

You should check your tyres regularly to ensure your car is safe and road legal. Penalty points and fines will cost you more than a new tyre.

Once the depth of your tyre tread reaches 3mm, you should check it every month.

The minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm but we would recommend changing your tyre once the tread depth is 2mm.

How do I find my tyre size?

The easiest way to find your car tyre size is by visiting cartyres.com

All you need to do is enter your registration number and postcode (this is so we only show you tyres that are available at local fitters) and your exact tyre size will be displayed.

Tyre pile

To ensure you order exactly what you need, you should double check these sizes with your existing tyres and you'll find these written on the tyre sidewall.

A tyre size looks something like this: 225/40 R18 87W

And here's what those numbers and letters mean:

Tyre pile
  • 1225 - Width of the tyre in millimetres.
  • 240 - Height of the tyre sidewall as a percentage of the width i.e. 40% of 225mm. This is also known as the aspect ratio.
  • 3R-Radial construction.
  • 418- The diameter of the tyre's inner rim in inches. Or the size of your steel or alloy wheel.
  • 587- Load rating of the tyre.
  • 6W- Speed rating which indicates the maximum speed of the tyre when under full load.
  • It's important that you check the sizes of all your tyres because front and rear tyres can sometimes differ in size.

How do I know I need new tyres?

Tyres are crucial to ensuring the safety of your vehicle for drivers, passengers and other road users so you must check your tyres regularly. The tyre tread depth legal limit is 1.6mm. Any less than this and your car may be unsafe to drive and you could receive a fine and penalty points.

Once your tyre tread depth reaches 2mm, we recommend that you order a new tyre.
You should also replace your tyres if:

  • 1. There are any bald patches
  • 2. Bulges are visible from the sidewall
  • 3. The internal construction can be seen
  • 4. The tyre differs in size to the one on the opposite axel
  • 5. Or if you can see any cracks, splits or perished rubber

Where can I get my tyres fitted?

It's completely up to you.

Whether you choose a tyre fitter close to home or one convenient for work, with cartyres.com you will always see the best deal.

We show you all the tyre prices from the UK's top tyre retailers with fitters in your area. Simply pick the tyre you want and who you would like to fit them.

Are my tyres legal?

As a responsible car owner, you are legally required to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy and safe.

The law in the UK states that your tyre tread must be a minimum of 1.6mm all around the tyre. If your tyre tread is below this, your tyre is not legal and your vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive.

Your tyre should be replaced immediately or you could face a fine and penalty points on your licence. Points are awarded for each illegal tyre so, if all your four of your tyre treads are below the legal minimum, you could receive 12 points and possibly lose your driving licence.

Coupled with the safety risks of defective tyres, it really isn't worth the risk. Make sure you carry out regular tyre checks and use cartyres.com to find the best tyre deals from a fitter local to you.
